Yet another highly rewarding visit to rural Limpopo- Ga-Dikgale to deliver a pallet of essential items to each of 15 drop-in centres. As we arrived at each centre, we were welcomed with song and dance by adults and children alike.
With a large Lonely Road Foundation team on hand, despite the extreme heat, we offloaded the goods timeously and with so much gratitude from the recipients. The large group was treated to a delishious lunch at Kokona drop-in Centre and then we continued on our dusty travels though the district until the last bag of mielie meal hit the ground at about 18h00.
A tired and dirty group arrived at the B & B in time to clean up and head off for a well-deserved dinner. The Lonely Road will report back to Makro on a few items that were missing from some of the pallets, but in all, a very successful delivery and help from wonderful volunteers.
A big thank you to Teresa who not only drove us there and back, but window washed at the “go slow” garage when we filled up en route in Polokwane, ably assisted by Thabang from The Lonely Road, and to Thandi, Liezel, Mandy and Marjorie who made up the rest of the NCCF team.
Sadly, due to lack of water, some of the vegetable gardens that we planted no longer exist, however Reel Gardening has assured us that with an international sponsor, that will soon have piped water available for each centre, and gardens that need replenishing or a fresh start, will be assisted by this donor.
We look forward to returning in 2014 to again assist the approximately 3000 indigent and orphaned children who benefitted from The NCCF this food donation.
