On 24 January the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF) visited six of the 15 drop-in centres in rural Ga- Dikgale, which the organisation has been assisting since 2012. The journey was made possible through the generous donation of a vehicle from Europcar and the careful driving of Sergio.
The NCCF team was welcomed with hugs and huge smiles as they drove into each centre, and the music, songs and dance of the Kokona children could be heard long before we reached their gates. Here we were treated to a theatrical performance and a delicious wood-fire lunch.
It was sad to see that some of the vegetable gardens we worked so hard to plant were almost laid to waste due to severe water shortages in the area, but The Lonely Road Foundation has assured us that the seeds will be replenished within the next month and water will be provided. The Ranti Centre remains the one lush area, with their resident gardener preparing new beds for further planting, and with 300 children being supported by Ranti, they continue to remain self-sustainable.
We have assessed the needs of the almost 3 000 indigent and orphaned children in Dikgale, and would like to do an essential non-perishable food run towards the end of August.
