The Art of Fast Bowling: uncovering SA’s raw sporting talent

Developing skills in local cricket is a vital part of maintaining SA’s impressive global cricket rankings. As a result, Nashua together with Centurion-based cricket team, the Unlimited Titans, and the High Performance Centre (HPC) are embarking on a search for SA’s next great fast bowlers.

The craft of fast bowling is a natural born skill which through training and determination can become a formidable weapon for any cricket team. The Art of Fast Bowling initiative will see young boys and girls from various schools get the chance to show their bowling skills, for the once in a lifetime opportunity to receive expert training and support to give them a head start toward a vibrant sporting career.

Discovering the talent

A road show across the northern regions of the country – particularly Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng east and Tshwane – is set to kick off from August to October, offering training clinics at selected schools. Additional testing will take place at the home of the Titans – Supersport Park.

Some of the schools involved lack the facilities and skills to inspire real interest in the sport amongst the kids. We’re not only scouting out great skill, but also using this opportunity to improve the talent we find and drum up more excitement about cricket. We hope to reach 1000 young boys and girls by the end of the year.

The signs of greatness

Fast bowlers are born. Through training, a bowler can learn how to throw straight, but can’t be taught how to bowl faster – that’s where natural ability really matters. With this programme, we’re hoping to find that talent and unlock a world of opportunity
