Thanks to the generosity of Tsogo Sun, Gold Reef City and a few other sponsors, 212 children will return to school tomorrow and regale their friends and teachers about their very special outing – a back to school treat to remember for a very long time.
Bongani Community Development Centre, Thiba Tlala, Thato Ke Matla and Waterwax Squatter Camp were welcomed at the gates of the theme park by volunteers from The Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation with muffins donated by Pick ‘n Pay Woodmead and juices purchased by NCCF. Blue wrist bands to identify the group, and off we headed to have fun ably assisted by Pauline from the theme park and Nombulelo from Tsogo Sun as well as the NCCF team – Mandy, Thandi, Cindy and Lana.
From one hair-raising ride to another, the kiddies corner for the more faint-hearted, the 4D movie experience and then a break for lunch generously sponsored by Dig Inn Grill. A large team of chefs, waiters and staff were on hand to serve up the delicious burgers, chips, all the trimmings and a juice. The children talked animatedly about their morning experiences and where they were heading to again after lunch.
In no time they had rushed off to find any ride that they might have missed before a smiling group of tired children and care-givers bade their farewells to us and the Gold Reef City Theme Park.
Soweto TV spent the day with us and will be airing the story of the outing on Children’s Day in November (date to be confirmed).
