Mandela Day 2016

| 1 August 2016

Nashua honoured the legacy of Madiba by celebrating Mandela Day with 12 organisations supported by the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF). At the event, the NCCF handed over goods worth R350 000 to children’s charities, alongside Miss SA, Nthandoyenkosi Kunene, and former Miss SA, Bernelee Daniell. This was made possible by generous donations from sponsors.

Pick ‘n Pay not only donated linen, clothing, toys, nappies and groceries, but prepared delicious snacks and a wonderful goody bag for each child. To top it all, they baked a giant cake shared by 200 guests. The Angel Network also donated goods and gave of their time to help the NCCF.

Makro Woodmead and Massfresh Woodmead donated bread and groceries, as well as fruit and vegetables. Plasticland Woodmead generously donated household items; Dis-chem Woodmead and Bedford Centre donated toiletries, nappies and baby items; and Hirsch’s Fourways delivered a kettle for each charity.

Johannesburg Mini Council donated blankets, beanies and scarfs. The donation was supplemented by blankets from the Knitting Knuts. Nashua staff members, Waverley Synagogue congregation and Reunert embraced the spirit of giving by donating books, toys, clothing and stationery.

The Koppel family and friends put a smile on the children’s faces by donating a new toy to each of the 72 children who attended the commemoration, in memory of their son Jarren. ECN and Telesure Dainfern also delivered their collection of groceries, clothing and toys.

Bayley Worldwide Removals made it possible for the NCCF to receive all the goods by collecting, storing and delivering to Nashua in time for the event. Photographer Cindy-Lee Brown captured all the special moments of the beautiful day.

The NCCF extends a huge thanks to all involved for making the 67 minutes of giving so memorable.
