NCCF charity visits August 2016

| 9 September 2016

The last of the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF) charity visits for 2016 saw the team visit six of their charities, once again with generous sponsorship in the form of transport from Uber.

Lerato Education Centre in Jackson’s Drift was the NCCF’s first stop, where singing children gratefully accepted the sweets donated to them. The centre has grown since the NCCF’s last visit and now educates close to 500 children between the ages of three and 12. The centre has a computer lab and well-stocked library to further aid the children’s education.

With 65 children in their care, the staff of Villa of Hope Children’s Home has their hands full – but with well-behaved tots and teens, it’s a pleasurable task for the house parents. School uniforms and stationery are needed for the 2017 school year, which the NCCF will provide.

The NCCF team also made a visit to MC Kharbai School in Lenasia where principal Michelle Batchelor was thrilled to show off their well-equipped classrooms. The team was treated to delicious snacks in the school’s newly donated state-of-the-art kitchen, while enjoying the music from the school’s award-winning marimba band.

At Thato Ke Matla, the NCCF was welcomed by a happy group of children who thanked the team for the donation with hand drawn cards. They have requested school uniforms and stationery for the new school year.

The Cradle of Hope’s Cradle Ark, also visited by the NCCF, supports 150 residents and has a day-care for 55 needy children in the area. In addition to this, they have now opened a baby sanctuary – Just In Time – which took in their first abandoned baby in August. Their flourishing vegetable garden is assisting with provisions for all their centres.

The NCCF ended the day at one of the seven homes run by the Baby Moses Sanctuary. The children were enjoying the sunny day and happily playing in the swimming pool. House parents Christo and Lanie expressed their gratitude for all the NCCF does for their 100 children.

Thank you to volunteers JP, Juanita, Adam, Lana, Jess, Janine and, of course, Philemon for spending the day with the NCCF team.
