NCCF goes surfing in the city with 32 teenagers

| 16 March 2017

Archbishop Desmond Tutu once said we’re different precisely in order to realise our need of one another. It’s in these unexpected realisations that we learn gratitude is as great a gift to those who give – as felt when received.

The team from the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF) recently lived the growing excitement of being handed a goodie bag, a Mugg & Bean breakfast and then boarding a bus bound for Sun City – all through the eyes of 32 children from MC Kharbai School for the Deaf.

The destination stunned teens as they took in the spectacle of Sun City, sized-up the wave pool while applying their sun-block and waded in, to surf the swells of the man-made sea at The Valley of the Waves. What wonder as their confidence grew before they set off for their next bold adventure: bounding atop tubes and down slides at speeds that made them scream with delight.

Heartfelt thanks go out to all who contributed to a day of magical memories made. Nashua North East for getting the fun started with all-things nice and necessary in goodie-bags, and for making sure the group travelled aboard a luxury coach. Mugg & Bean for a hearty breakfast, The Food Factory for lunchtime burgers, the Valley of the Waves for ice-creams all-round and Gametrackers for making sure our home-trip refreshments were kept cool and fresh. Sun City for hosting us and sponsoring all towels and umbrellas, the always happy-to-help team from V.O.W. – Patrick, Naledi and Elias, and of course, everyone at the NCCF.

We all hold the gift of gratitude in our grasp. And as the Archbishop reminds us: “Do your little bit of good where you are.”
