Our 11th annual Mandela Day commemoration was made the most memorable day for 3627 children in rural Limpopo thanks to all those who assisted in so many ways. Ga-Dikgale was overwhelmed with the sight of 35 tons of supplies arriving on their dusty roads as we wound our way through this vast area, off-loading essential goods.
The day was long, but rewarding with our deliveries being completed well after sunset. This massive undertaking of deliveries would not have been possible without the 24 volunteers from Aluwani and the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation who put every muscle into the distribution of the goods.
Of course, this day would not have been possible without the generous donation of our sponsors. We would like to thank Feed SA for the 500 food & toiletry hampers, toilet paper and sanitizers; Afrika Tikkun, Avi Lefkowitz, Y-Mad and Aluwani for assisting the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation in contributing funds towards the purchase of a further 1300 food parcels. We would also like to thank the SA Jewish Board of Deputies and the Angel Network for the generous donation of R97500 00 worth of e’Pap.
Thank you Kerri Marks and Oshree for the most welcome vitamin water – an added surprise. Shout4 masks and Hikvision donated masks for the protection of the children. Thank you to the JHB Mini Council for the added treat of Easter eggs as well as toys and clothing from Twincare staff and other anonymous donors, all of which put big smiles on the faces of every child.
Motus Car Rental ensured that we could travel on our mission with the loan of 2 vehicles; while Victoria Place, the best B & B in Polokwane, accommodated and fed our weary group in style and at a greatly reduced cost. Thanks also to Makro Woodmead for undertaking the massive task of packing the additional 1300 hampers and assisting with the loading of the huge truck.
This Mandela Day 2020 could not have been realised without the support of all of you!
