Saturday 17TH November was another special morning spent in a Jet Store – this time in Maponya Mall in Soweto. We started out with 3 back to school shopping sprees and had Kliptown Youth Programmed walk out with just over R19 000.00 worth of school shoes. They were soon followed by Hlakaniphani Junior School with their boxes of shoes, grey pants and white shirts valued at almost R10 000.00 and then finally Thiba Tlala who could not purchase all their back to school items as the store had run out of stock. Hopefully we will complete the shopping during the next week.
Then the very well-behaved children from the Thusanang HIV/AIDS Project arrived to be met by Mark Fish, Flo Simba, Siboniso Gaxa and Morgan Gould. There was huge excitement as the children, armed with their Jet packets, rushed into the store with our wonderful group of volunteers and the shopping frenzy began. It was not long before the first smiling face was at the tills, ready to have her purchases rung up, but the line grew longer as more and more children joined the queue with their bags filled. Sindi and the wonderful Jet Maponya team, ably assisted by Flo and Morgan, soon started cashing up and each child sat happily with their sealed bag, waiting for their friends to join them.
The very hungry group were off to Nandos for a lunch treat with balloons, lollipops and more photo opportunities with their heroes.
