This week the NCCF entertained about 50 boys between the ages of 8 and 10 from Lerato Education Centre.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, Pick n Pay Hyper Woodmead, City Sightseeing Tours, and Tsogo Sun, everybody had an amazing day.
With Pick n Pay packets loaded with treats, eats, and juices for each child, the day began on a high. This was followed by a warm welcome from Christine, Gabo, and photographer/blogger/tweeter Dominique, who accompanied us on our tour.
The children could not wait to clamber up the stairs to the top of the bus, and despite the chilly morning, enjoyed every minute of the City Sightseeing Tour. A tour of Museum Africa was the first stop, and then it was on to Constitutional Hill, where the children were treated to a visit of most of this historical landmark and had a chance to sit in the court.
Our final stop was the James Hall Transport Museum, where once again, a guide explained the fascinating history of every type of transport to the overjoyed boys, who were then allowed to board an old city tram. A tired, but happy group boarded the bus at the end of the day and we headed back to Gold Reef City for the children to be taken back to Jackson’s Drift Squatter Camp where they all live.
A big thank you to Tsogo Sun and City Sightseeing Tours for sponsoring this outing, which has certainly educated the boys, and has given them a little bit of joy during the long winter school holidays. Thanks to Pick ’n Pay Hypermarket Woodmead’s donation – several of the children even saved a few snacks to take home.
