On Saturday 23 October, fifty very excited toddlers and teens from Orlando Children’s Home and Matjele Community Centre met us at the Maponya Mall in Soweto. The screams of delight set the tone for the morning when Lucas Radebe, Andre Arendse and Hlubi Mboya arrived to assist with the clothing shopping spree.
Armed with shopping bags, Jet stores was soon brimming at the seams and the clothing frenzy began. The girls quickly snapped up the newly stocked lilac glitter takkies, as well as multi-coloured pairs and skinny jeans.
The boys were looking for baggies and very specific t-shirts, but all requests were met by the incredibly helpful Jet Store Manager, Sindi and her team. There was excitement at the tills when Lucas, Andre and Hlubi moved in to help with checking and packing of each bag.
Fifty happy children left the store and headed for Nandos where there was platters of chicken, chips and salad as well as juices for all. The Nandos team lead by Chef Percy and manager Brian gave the group the royal treatment and with Lucas, Andre and Hlubi acting as waiters. Tummies full and armed with balloons, the group then made their way to Woolworths where every child was handed a large bag of Chuckles. Thank you’s and hugs all around as we all departed for home.
