It was so much more than just a food drive to the Ga-Dikgale village in rural Limpopo to commemorate the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation 14th annual Mandela Day.

From dawn to dusk, the indefatigable NCCF and Aluwani volunteers offloaded 20 palettes of groceries and R1million+ in goods including linen, clothing, furniture, kitchen/housewares, educational books, dolls, kites, easter eggs, beanies, gloves, accessories, slippers, baby goods, school uniforms, shoes, nappies, formula, potatoes, fabric, and more for 4 029 children who are assisted by 20 drop-in centres in the village. 

Working alongside Katie from Aluwani on the mammoth project was a pleasure, and we thank AAluwani for organising the trucks to transport all the goods as well as their large team of volunteers not forgetting to mention Thabang by name, to supplement our group. A huge thank you to Konoto Creche for preparing a delicious lunch for more than 30 of us.

What started out many years ago as a grocery delivery to sustain the children for a few months, has grown into so much more. We extend our sincere gratitude to the generous donors who made this Mandela Day our biggest ever with Segen Solar and Aluwani contributing funds to our grocery expense; for the 100s of cartons of goods received, and for services – Cosmic Fashion Options, Sandton Sun, Store & More, Jhb Mini Council, Europcar, The People of South Africa Foundation, and the many individuals who donated in their personal capacity. We could not have achieved this without your support!
