On Saturday 23 November, 50 children from the SANTU HIV/AIDS Project did not stop smiling – from the minute they were handed the Jet shopping bags, to saying goodbye to the NCCF volunteers and celebrities after their tummies were filled by Nandos.
Angel Mthembu who runs the SANTU HIV/AIDS Project sobbed as she watched her group chatting, laughing, and calling to each other as they selected their clothing.
Mark Fish and Andre Arendse were on hand to assist with the shopping, and although their budgeting skills were not up to par, they acquitted themselves extremely well at the cash points. We would like to extend a huge thank you to a wonderful team of volunteers who helped the excited children choose: Jess and Jess, Mandy, Lana, Janine, Chris, Marjorie, Ditebogo (and cousin), Liz, Sergio, Fidelis, Tumi, and Busi. Without you guys we would not have completed the shop in record time.
A quick walk to Nandos were Thabani was waiting for us with his friendly team, leading us upstairs in our own private restaurant. Within in minutes the children were enjoying chicken burgers, chips, and juice, followed biscuits, a toy, and balloon each. The adults were able to relax for a few minutes and tuck into platters heaped with food, in fact so much that we packed a platter for Angel to take back to SANTU for the many more children who did not enjoy the treat.
Below is a short clip of the SANTU children singing their thanks to the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation.
