Reasons For Updating Your Company’s Security Camera System

You rely on your company’s security cameras and video recording technology to ensure that your office premises are kept safe at all times. That’s why you should make sure that your security camera system is constantly updated in order to avoid any breakdowns or glitches. In case a break-in or theft does occur at your office, a malfunctioning security camera system might not be able to record who was responsible. There are various reasons why you should update your camera system.

Cyber security

Cyber security hacks are a common threat to businesses, and this threat can extend to your security cameras. Surveillance camera networks are connected to the internet, which enables users to access them remotely. There may be vulnerabilities in your security camera software or firmware that hackers will be able to take advantage of. This can be done from a remote location if your system happens to have remote access. It can also be done locally, for example, through a computer that’s already infected. This is why it’s advisable to patch up your security camera system on a regular basis by having a firewall installed in order to prevent unauthorised access and constantly updating your firmware. This firewall would come courtesy of an internet security provider.

Bug fixes

You’re no doubt familiar with the expression “there’s a bug in the system”. This can apply to both surveillance camera and video recording technology. Your system might constantly be faltering due to hidden errors in its programming, in which case you should contact your service provider or discuss the job with your company’s tech team.

Performance improvements

The operating system on which your cameras and video recorders run will always need to be updated. This can enable you to benefit from the various improvements that operating system updates bring. It’s particularly advantageous for video, which can be difficult to process, store and manage. Any improvements can make a notable difference. They could include faster access to the system, less storage use, and fewer connectivity issues like dropped frames.

New features

You might like to update your whole security camera system in order to accommodate new and exciting features. These could include facial recognition technology, which is a particularly beneficial tool to harness if you want to ensure that unauthorised personnel are not accessing your office premises. There’s also fever screening, which involves the use of thermal cameras that take your temperature. Fever screening solutions can actually detect the temperature of the surface of your skin and then send a report to a mobile device or a mail group for further investigation. With this technology, access to an office premises can be denied if a person is not wearing a mask, or his or her temperature is abnormal. This is both an extraordinary technological advancement and a helpful tool in detecting possible sickness.

Your surveillance camera system is important for company security, make sure it is properly and constantly updated. Avoid bugs that might crawl their way into the system, and patch up areas of vulnerability in order to prevent cyber attacks. Also regularly ascertain what performance improvements might need to be made, as well as what new features there are that can help you enhance the efficacy of your security camera system.
