The best places to install security cameras at your office

There’s no doubt that you want your workspace to be protected round the clock, especially when the place is left vacant. This is why it’s wise to invest in a decent security camera system so that you can keep an eye on your office premises at all times. However, it’s not simply a matter of installing a few surveillance cameras here and there. You need to be both selective and thorough when it comes to the exact locations of your security cameras. Here are the best places in and around your office premises where you can install them.

The general work area

Where your employees work is where all the main action happens, so it would be wise to keep an eye on this area. It might seem as if you are spying on your workforce, but the truth is that possessions can go missing and bullying and harassment can occur. If your employees are voicing concerns about problems such as theft and harassment, then it’s a good idea to try and get video evidence of actions like these before pointing the finger at any specific person. Once you have proof of the problem and know exactly who is responsible for it, then you can act. It would be advisable to install several cameras at various points within your workspace so you have a good general view of the area.

Store rooms

There are no doubt places in your office where you keep important and valuable equipment. Make sure you keep a vigilant eye on these storage spaces by installing cameras near their entry points and inside them. Keep stock of the inventory you have in these storage spaces and if anything is missing then you can look at the video footage to see who might have accessed these rooms and when. There should ideally be a camera pointed at the doors leading into these rooms, as well as cameras on the inside with a clear view of the inventory.

Recreational spaces

Many companies create spaces in which employees can take their minds off work and engage in other activities or just relax. These areas might include couches and a pool or ping pong table. Keep in mind, however, that this is still part of your office space, and it is up to you to make sure that acts such theft or harassment do not take place here. Installing a camera within one of these areas is a worthwhile means of warding off these actions. Plus, you might find that certain people are spending a bit too much time in these areas. Keeping a respectful eye on your employees might dissuade those who may be slacking off too often and encourage them to prioritise work.

Loading docks and delivery areas

If goods are delivered to your workspace on a regular basis, and you own the sort of company that has a designated loading dock for heavy equipment to be dropped off, you could face a situation in which goods delivered have gone missing, or persons have entered your illegally through this area. That’s why it is important to keep a watchful eye on these areas in order to pinpoint cases of theft or unlawful entry.

Server Rooms

Your server room contains all the necessary infrastructure that is needed to support your network. It’s also where your company’s valuable data is stored. Both assets are vulnerable to vandalism or theft and you don’t want to compromise their safety.  Install cameras both inside and outside your server room to keep it monitored at all times.

A surveillance system is an effective means of ensuring that your office premises and any equipment you might have stored onsite are properly monitored. It’s also a good idea to keep cameras focused on your general work area, as well as any recreational spaces, in order to catch possible cases of theft, vandalism or harassment. If there’s a break-in, a robbery or even an altercation between employees, having video surveillance onsite might just help you get to the bottom of who was responsible.
